Book Review: I Zombie I by Jack Wallen

Description from Amazon

In a moment of pure chaos, the majority of the Earth's population became the walking dead. One man promises to unveil the truth.

When journalist Jacob Plummer is bitten by one of the undead he turns to the written word not only to ease the pain of change, but to reveal a truth that could spare the world from extinction.

As Jacob attempts to reveal the conspiracy behind the virus he fights off the undead masses to save the planet from a collision with entropy.

Review

Overall Feedback: I have had tow authors (Shea MacLeod and Danielle Blanchard) suggest that I read this book. I know both of them from the IWU Facebook Group and I trust they know a good book when they read it, so I gave it a chance. I am so very happy that I did. Jack is a brilliant writer and he can make your head spin with his storytelling wiles. Jack tells us his take on Zombies without the feeling like we are being slammed by yet another Zombie book or movie.

Point of View: In a unique twist you get to read the story through the eyes of a man while he changes and fights those he is becoming like.

Voice: Zombies are people too.

Character Development: Jack is able to take the reader through the full gambit of emotions for his main character. Spot on development.

Plot: We all know that the Zombie Apocalypse is coming so why not study up.

Dialogue: With the narrating from Jacob you have to wonder how Jack was able to know" what a zombie thinks. Besides "Brians"

Pacing: Count this review in with the rest of the one sitting reads.

Setting: Jack is able to convey a setting without going into intricate detail. In other words he gives just enough to the reader to know what colors to use but allows the reader to paint the portrait.

Continuity: A perfect start to what looks to be a perfect series.

Book Review: Zombie Exodus by Jim Dattilo

Description from iTunes

Build your character and fight your way out of a zombie-filled city to save your sister in this interactive horror fiction story. Gather supplies and weapons while avoiding the military, bandits, and living dead. Your choices alone control the story.

Review

Seeing as how this is more an interactive story for an Android Device or Apple Device my review will have to be given in a different format. First of all this is a Free story on both Apple and Android devices and is also available for viewing online. I thought the author did very well with the story line and gave some interesting choices to make throughout the story. I was disappointed that there are still needs in development but it shows that this will be an ever growing narrative. This is def something that the enthusiastic Zombie Apocalypse Reader can get into.

Author Interview: Cynthia Echterling author of Scavengers

About your book: Scavengers

What does it mean to be human? It is one thing for anthropologist, Thomas Martin, to study the savages who live in the ruins, eating rats, garbage and their own dead. It is quite another to become one of them and survive. Scavengers is a post-apocalyptic story of devastation and rebirth.

Free Book Reviews
What do you think readers will find most notable about this book?

Cynthia Echterling
When I tell people what the book is about, many expect it to be horror. It has cannibals in it, right? But readers are suprised by how well developed the characters are, how I take you inside their heads and how sympathetic they, the reader, becomes toward the very realistic people in this novel.

Free Book Reviews
Have you acquired any good anecdotes surrounding this book? If so, could you share one?

Cynthia Echterling
The first person to read this book was my brother. He would come home from work and right away start reading. when I asked him about it, he said it made him hungry. I was shocked. He said especially the part about hunting ducks and pigeons. My brother was an invaluable resource on hunting, survival skills and how to fight dirty.

Free Book Reviews
Did researching and writing this book teach you anything or influence your thinking in any way?

Cynthia Echterling
Anthropology is a long term interest of mine. One thing I found interesting: In the book, certain peoples have been designated by the government as sub-human. Since they were discovered, Neanderthals too, were usually considered a less evolved species. In the past year, genetics research has shown that most of us carry Neanderthal genes and, since then, reporting has upgraded them to intelligent with any skills previously thought beyond their capabilities. It seems to parallel what I wrote years ago.

Free Book Reviews
What would you most like readers to tell others about this book?

Cynthia Echterling
To read it, of course! but seriously folks, I hope beyond being exciting, I hope they say it was thought provoking and I hope the ending gives them happy tears.

Free Book Reviews
Can you suggest one question readers might find interesting to discuss, concerning you, your writing in general, or this book?

Cynthia Echterling
What does it mean to be human, and what does it mean to be humane?

About You: Cynthia Echterling

I live in Indiana, but have also lived in Georgia where this story takes place. My training is in experimental psychology and I am an Army veteran. I am also an artist and dabble in animation and voice over. And! I'm one of those crazy writers who live alone with just a cat.

Free Book Reviews
Why do you write?

Cynthia Echterling
One of the cool things about being a writer is that you get to sit around staring off into space and call it working!

Free Book Reviews
What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Cynthia Echterling
I'm told I'm odd. Don't know if that's a strength, but it is a characteristic of my work. I'm also told my characters are well developed and my dialogue is realistic.

Free Book Reviews
What quality do you most value in yourself?

Cynthia Echterling
There are only hints of it in this particular book (comic relief) but I'm usually pretty funny! I'm also very nice person, though shy at times.

Free Book Reviews
In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

Cynthia Echterling
As I said, I'm also an artist and I love drawing my characters to get to know them. I'm also terminally curious and love learning new stuff.

Free Book Reviews
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

Cynthia Echterling
Knowing that there are people who I have helped make their lives better.

Free Book Reviews
Is there any new or established author whom you feel deserves more attention, and what is it that strikes you about his or her work?

Cynthia Echterling
I just started reading Flight of the Sorcerress by Barry Wildorf. It's an historical novel about the last librarian at the Library of Alexandria and a woman who is a healer during the fall of Rome. I know he did a LOT of research but he incorporates it so well into the story, it doesn't feel like research.

SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today

Hi everyone!

A big hurrah to you!!!!! We’ve won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today -- the votes we’ve been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled.

The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game. You were heard.

On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday. See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did.

This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever.

The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled. “‘This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. ‘[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’”

“'This is altogether a new effect,' Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing 'an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically' in the last four decades, he added."

Tweet with us, shout on the internet with us, let's celebrate: Round of applause to the 13 million people who stood up - #PIPA and #SOPA are tabled 4 now. #13millionapplause

Book Review: Death Wish: Book I (The Vamp Saga) by Danielle Blanchard Benson

Description from Amazon

Eight years into the future...

Vampires not only exist, they control the Pharmaceutical Industry, the Global Six, the Gaming Industry and the world.

Manon Mourey, a Let It Ride card dealer at Transylvania Hotel, Spa & Casino in Summerlin, is nothing special when Mikkel Damgaard enters her life.

Fortunately for Manon, she holds the key to turn not only herself but Mikkel into Day Walkers, the elite who will replace vampires at the top of the food chain. Their superior position causes a war which could consume not only the International Vampire Council but the world entire because Day Walkers don't share the same taste for mortal blood as their predecessors...

97,244 Words / 388 paperback pages

*This is a revised version with excerpts from Better Off Dead: Book II (The Vamp Saga) and The Beginning: Book I (The Plague)*

Review

Overall Feedback: My impulsive first response to this was oh great another vampire novel to through into the pile of other vampire novels. With this in mind I agreed to read and review it thinking I would know the plot and bore myself for a few hours and then post a review about how this goes as other vampire books goes and leave it at that. All due respect to Danielle as she is a friend and fellow member of IWU, that was my first reaction. After reading this book and then rereading this book I would have to say, I WAS WRONG. Danielle carves a story out of a genre that has been beat to death and poked with a stick so many times that most readers are sickened by the idea of reading another one. She takes the reader out of the "Normal" vampire story and throws them into a world where it makes sense. Danielle's vampires are just as we expect from an immortal being with unlimited power, violent, profane and sexual. Well written and I can not wait for the next.

Point of View: Manon (from Forever 27) is your main character and is your conduit into this world.

Voice: Vampires = People

Character Development: The development of the characters is spot on and will command your attention to each and everyone. You shall relate to each one in your own way and Manon will of course cause the most transformation.

Plot: I dare you not to have the plot in mind when you are done or even have to walk away long enough to do other things.

Dialogue: Nothing is held back and the rawness of the dialogue will keep and captivate you.

Pacing: I read it twice in one day. Enough said.

Setting: Do not let the genre fool you into this security of a world you thought you knew and understood. It is more than you knew and everything you want it to be. Finally an adult version of the preteen genre.

Continuity: From start to finish not a hole to be found.

Book Review: Prophecy Moon by Laura Eno

Description from Amazon

Loner Travis O'Conner becomes the unwilling champion of a mysterious seer who plunges him into another dimension. His only guide—a deck of Tarot cards in her possession.

He falls in love with a woman who may not be his ally, while battling wizards intent on destroying him. Must Travis lose his love in order to save his world?

Review

Overall Feedback: Eno draws the reader into the action right off the bat and keeps pounding the action into your reading imagination and still manages to add a bit of romance into the story. Plenty of reviews will state that this is a page turner and that they could not put it down. But I say from the start to the finish it will not be that you can not put it down, it will be that you will not WANT to put it down.

Point of View: Fall in love, seek adventure, go on a quest to deliver something enchanted and live in a fantasy all from the safety of your mind all vicariously through Travis.

Voice: Inner struggle and how it can affect us all while immersing the reader in Fantasy and Romance. Perfection!

Character Development: Because the action starts with a bang it takes a bit to really develop the characters but I believe Eno wanted to catch the reader's attention and allow her characters to grow on and with the reader. Just as characters should develop.

Plot: The action could have caused a mess of the plot but Eno obviously took the time to carefully align the plot and pace.

Dialogue: Seemingly dry at times but for the most part added to the character development.

Pacing: Not to repeat myself, okay to repeat myself. Plenty of reviews will state that this is a page turner and that they could not put it down. But I say from the start to the finish it will not be that you can not put it down, it will be that you will not WANT to put it down.

Setting: Travis's world is magical, fantastical and stimulates the imagination bone.

Continuity: One word. FLAWLESS!

Author Interview: Michael Meyer author of The Famous Union

About your book: The Famous Union

THE FAMOUS UNION is a rollicking romp through the halls of academia. The often eccentric characters, most of whom have opposing agendas, are met with total frustration as the power-that-be make such absurd decisions in this time of severe global economic hardship. It is timely read since what is happening at this small college is taking place throughout the country and the world today. This short novel will make you laugh and cry, maybe even at the same time.

Free Book Reviews
What do you think readers will find most notable about this book?

Michael Meyer
It is such a timely read since there is such a shortage of money to go around, and the decision makers seem incapable of doing anything to alleviate the situation. The problems at Famous Union College, though comical in nature, will surely hit home with most readers.

Free Book Reviews
Have you acquired any good anecdotes surrounding this book? If so, could you share one?

Michael Meyer
A friend of mine, after reading it, said that the United States Congress itself could not outdo the damage that the power-that-be at Famous Union College have created. The thought made me laugh.

Free Book Reviews
Did researching and writing this book teach you anything or influence your thinking in any way?

Michael Meyer
Since I recently retired from a 40-year career as a college professor, experiencing almost everything imaginable in my lengthy academic career, writing the book made me realize that almost anything is possible today in this time of terrible financial strain, and the thought scares me to death.

Free Book Reviews
What would you most like readers to tell others about this book?

Michael Meyer
I would like my readers to tell others about the very existence of my novel. Writing is thoroughly enjoyable, but the marketing end, my greatest weakness by far, is my Waterloo, so to speak. I depend heavily upon word-of-mouth recommendations and customer reviews posted to my Amazon site.

Free Book Reviews
Can you suggest one question readers might find interesting to discuss, concerning you, your writing in general, or this book?

Michael Meyer
How can a small group of individuals be allowed to make such momentous decisions that ultimately affect all of us?

Free Book Reviews
How can readers help you promote this book?

Michael Meyer
Let others know about its existence. Guide them to my Amazon site. Leave customer reviews on my Amazon site. Everything and anything you can do via word of mouth, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and reviews written on my own Amazon site will be very helpful.

About You: Michael Meyer

After a forty-year career of teaching writing at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand; The University of Petroleum and Minerals, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Utah State University; Portland State University; The College of the Virgin Islands; and finally retiring from Riverside Community College, I am now devoting much of his retirement to his own writing. My two short humorous novels have been published on Amazon Kindle.

Free Book Reviews
Why do you write?

Michael Meyer
I love words and what they can evoke when creatively strung together. I enjoy bringing humor to even very serious situations. We, as human beings, are all in this together, so communication in crucial. I think I have something to say that can end up bringing thoughtful pleasure to others.

Free Book Reviews
What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Michael Meyer
I like the eccentric characters I create. I laugh with them, cry with them, and learn from them. I care about them, and I do everything to get the words just right at all times.

Free Book Reviews
What quality do you most value in yourself?

Michael Meyer
I see myself as an optimist even when pessimism seems to be called for in this chaotic yet wonderful world of ours.

In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

Michael Meyer
I am an avid reader and an avid world traveler. I have lived overseas numerous times, and I try to travel internationally at least once every year.

Book Review: You Don't Need a Prince: A Letter to My Daughter by Cheryl Shireman

Description from Amazon

Timeless advice on love for women of all ages!

As women, so many of us buy into the myth that we need a prince to live happily ever after - or at least our version of a prince. In reality, like the Good Witch tells Dorothy, YOU always had the power. You don't need a prince to be happy. The power to be happy lies within.

Now, instead of a fairytale, let a true story inspire you (or your daughter or a friend).

This book began as an email from a mother to a daughter in college at Indiana University. The daughter was going through a tough time in her relationship. She had mixed emotions about ending her current relationship because she simply did not want to hurt him. To make matters worse, she had just met another man. A man she was head over heels in love with. Amid this turmoil, her mother sent her an email with words of advice about love and relationships. About the myth that every girl needs a Prince.

The daughter loved the email so much that she began forwarding it to her friends. And so the chain began, women reaching out to women.

And now that email has been turned into a book for you to share with the women in your life.

Review

Normally when I review a book on this blog I have several criteria that I run through in order to give an idea to readers on if it will be worth the read. In saying this I had to modify the review template in order to review this one seeing as how this is a short story of about 2500 words. Now on to the review:

Without going into explicit details I can honestly say that this is a book(email) that is going to make it to the shelves of all the women still searching for happiness and love in my life. Shireman's email to her daughter Scarlett is an emotional, touching ride full of undiluted truths. She points out to her daughter (and many other women) what pitfalls they create for themselves and that setting expectations on others that are impossible to accomplish is self destructive to oneself. This heartfelt advise should be preached, painted and told to every girl in every corner of the globe. I also believe that this is a book that boys should read. While boys may find it difficult at first to comprehend or understand how this applies to them maybe they can see the bigger picture. Sometimes in our lives we meet that perfect woman (for me RJ Palmer) and we fail to see that by pushing us away harder and setting higher expectations on us we are only finding ourselves closer to their hearts. If we can recognize this and practice the patience spoken of in this book, along with sharing honesty with them we shall find the path together. If you have yet to read this book (email) take a moment to download and read this one. Once you are done, read it again. Now sit and think of the choices that you have made in your life, the relationships won and lost and I dare you not to see that at one time you were the same. This is not about settling for "Mr. or Ms. Right" it is about knowing that our expectations of them ruins and prevents finding them.

No matter what profession/career path one takes, there will always be a conflict of interest in individuals standards, and morals.

Free Book Reviews
Did researching and writing this book teach you anything or influence your thinking in any way?

CD Swanson
No, not really. I am always thrilled to bring about the promotion of "goodness" overall.

Free Book Reviews
What would you most like readers to tell others about this book?

CD Swanson
How there are so many twists and turns, with a surprise ending...without giving away anything else!

Free Book Reviews
Can you suggest one question readers might find interesting to discuss, concerning you, your writing in general, or this book?

CD Swanson
I have worked for a majority of my career in Nursing Homes, so I am well acquainted with the bowels of the operation. I am a Christian and I would like to believe others see me as a morally conscious individual, and someone who always tries to do the right thing in any given scenario.

How can readers help you promote this book?

CD Swanson
By tweeting, by facebook, by blogging...And, by telling everyone about it via "word of mouth."

About You: CD Swanson

I have worked for a majority of my career in Nursing Homes, so I am well acquainted with the bowels of the operation. I am a Christian and I would like to believe others see me as a morally conscious individual, and someone who always tries to do the right thing in any given scenario

Free Book Reviews
Why do you write?

CD Swanson
For God and because I love it.

Free Book Reviews
What is your greatest strength as a writer?

CD Swanson
My non-fiction books - bringing God into the forum as the main reason for everything in life. As for the Christian novels (ficition)-I like to bring to my readers a good novel, that is both interesting, and exciting, without proliferating vulgarity the way most authors do. I like to show that a good story does not have to be filled with "trashy scenes," and sexual depictions. I also like to share a "moralistic view" in society overall.

Free Book Reviews
What quality do you most value in yourself?

CD Swanson
My Christian beliefs:my love of God.

Free Book Reviews
In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

CD Swanson
I love animals, all kinds...They are the most gentle and helpless things-God's creations.

Free Book Reviews
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

CD Swanson
My first book "Dear God With Love" my love for God in poetic fashion, akin to the book of Psalms. I am very proud of that book - for it was directly to God that it was written.

Free Book Reviews
Is there any new or established author whom you feel deserves more attention, and what is it that strikes you about his or her work?

CD Swanson
Well, she isn't published "yet" but the one who comes to mind is a remarkably talented lady, Joni LeRette-Flores. She has a gift straight from God; her writing is infused with truisms, humor- and stuff of substance. She is a delight to read. Go to her website and check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Author Interview: Lincoln Park author of Baked-Off

About Your Book: Baked-Off

My name is LiNCOLN PARK and I'm a novelist. My latest book (2011) is a PARENTAL ADVISORY, interactive satire about food called BAKED-OFF -- and here is the official blurb:

Baked-Off
by LiNCOLN PARK
ISBN: 1257642952 (ISBN13: 9781257642953)

Just who ARE those people who pre-heat their lives to 350 degrees and stew for hours just to enter baking contests?

Have you ever wondered what REALLY happens at one of those things?

LiNCOLN PARK fans, rejoice! This time, she’s got us smack in the middle of a national bake-off – where the contestants cry, the dough flies and the judges are high! All hell bakes loose!

BAKED-OFF -- the fourth book by cult novelist, LiNCOLN PARK -- is the irreverent and interactive story which uncooks the inner fixings, deep dishes and foodie wonkings of a nationwide baking contest.

PARENTAL ADVISORY

Free Book Reviews
What do you think readers will find most notable about this book?

Lincoln Park
This is the first time I have tried to go even further than using font shapes and sizes to help tell my story. In BAKED-OFF -- I have given twitter accounts, blogs, music playlists and email addresses to the central characters.

Free Book Reviews
Have you acquired any good anecdotes surrounding this book? If so, could you share one?

Lincoln Park
My mom said that I should seek help. My husband concurred.

Free Book Reviews
Did researching and writing this book teach you anything or influence your thinking in any way?

Lincoln Park
Writing BAKED-OFF taught me that trying to make characters leap off the page by using several forms of media at once requires lots of time and Tylenol.

Free Book Reviews
What would you most like readers to tell others about this book?

Lincoln Park
That reading a food-oriented book with a PARENTAL ADVISORY label is not as bad as it sounds.

Free Book Reviews
Can you suggest one question readers might find interesting to discuss, concerning you, your writing in general, or this book?

Lincoln Park
If readers follow this link:

they can download a free, Reader Discussion Guide for BAKED-OFF. There are ten questions to ponder like:

"Is your immediate social network of family and friends an ally or an adversary to your ambitions? In what ways has this been manifest in your life?"

Free Book Reviews

How can readers help you promote this book?

Lincoln Park
The BEST way is to leave a review on Amazon.com and Goodreads.com if you like it... or tell your Tweeps on twitter. Leave a video review if you like it on Amazon.com or YouTube. those are the COOLEST -- and they really make my day. Thanks for asking!

About You: Lincoln Park

I'm just a girl who loves to imagine crazy stuff and write it down. Here's my official Bio blurb:

LiNCOLN PARK began writing books as a way to privately express her feelings about prevalent social issues; especially in regard to urban, African-American, feminine perspectives. However -- with the subjects and popularity of her titles now crossing over publishing color-lines, LiNCOLN PARK's fecund fables and prolific parables of modern episodes are heralded by a colossal and mounting faction of fervent, mainstream literati.

Called a 'gifted writer' by the prestigious, RAWSISTAZ Book Reviewers; as well as a special combination of -- Erma Bombeck's CRACK WIT, Tim Russert's CRACK RESEARCH, Merriam Webster's CRACK DEFINITIONS and a generally, CRACKED MIND -- LiNCOLN PARK's extraordinary literary style is controversial, cult and cutting-edge. As she frequently administers a more severe and disquieting pen than her contemporary literary counterparts, 4465 PReSS has taken unique initiative and placed the standard seal of PARENTAL ADVISORY on the front and back covers of all LiNCOLN PARK-penned books.

Free Book Reviews
Why do you write?

Lincoln Park
I write for those who, despite these days of $4-per-gallon gas and foreclosed homes by-the-truckload, pay their hard-earned ca$h to read my stories. I owe them the best story I can possibly tell.

Free Book Reviews
What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Lincoln Park
I love the story and I talk too mucking fuch.

Free Book Reviews
What quality do you most value in yourself?

Lincoln Park
I keep writing; no matter how many people think I should keep my day job.

Free Book Reviews
In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

Lincoln Park
Any and all programs which support literacy, technology, the environment and keeping people fed, clothed and housed.

Free Book Reviews
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

Book Review: Dantalion of the Goetia by Tina M.E.

Description from Amazon

Dantalion, an immortal angel of God, has fallen from grace and is condemned as one of 72 demons of an ancient 17th century grimoire referred to as The Goetia meaning sorcerer or mage. He seduces a mortal college girl and practitioner of the occult named Laurel, who summons his true demonic form in the Courtyard of the Undead, creating an unexplainable relationship of love, obsession, and redemption.

Review

Overall Feedback: This book weaves a wonderful tale of love, corruption and redemption. Another twist in the romance genre that is worth taking a look at. You will not regret this purchase.

Point of View: From the eyes of a young college girl, you release a demon and your adventure begins.

Voice: I believe the author was trying to show our constant search for something greater.

Character Development: Perfection.

Plot: There are some steps where the plot stumbles but nothing that will cause the reader to lose focus.

Dialogue: The author seemed to struggle a bit here but pulls it off in the end.

Pacing: Had to reread a couple of chapters to figure out where my mind made the wrong turn but nothing to cause alarm. Probably was my attention that caused the issue as romance is not my genre of choice.

Setting: Evil lurks everywhere.

Continuity: Other than the couple of things listed above nothing to cause me to not recommend this as a good read.

Author Interview: K. S. Brooks author of Night Undone (Agent Night Cover Me Series)

About your book: Night Undone (Agent Night Cover Me Series)

Night Undone is a suspense/drama which follows former Special Agent Kathrin Night as she tries to deal with forced retirement a year after an injury in the line of duty. A field operative most of her adult life, being sidelined isn't really an option for her. But life can sometimes send us on strange journeys, and this time it's Kathrin's turn to go for a ride. There's romance, mystery, character development, Olympic hockey and plenty of plot surprises. There's more about Night Undone at http://www.agentnight.com/NightUndone.htm

Free Book Reviews
What do you think readers will find most notable about this book?

K. S. Brooks
I'm hoping readers will sense the honesty with which Night Undone was written. I really went outside my comfort zone and poured it all into this book.

Free Book Reviews
Have you acquired any good anecdotes surrounding this book? If so, could you share one?

K. S. Brooks
I was a possessed lunatic when I wrote Night Undone. I've never written like that before - 10 or more hours straight at a time, and when I wasn't at the computer typing it, the wheels in my head were turning over it. I was literally consumed. At one point, there was a word I wanted and couldn't think of - for nearly two weeks. That whole time I kept on writing, figuring eventually the word would come to me. One morning, I woke up at 5 a.m., sat up straight in bed and yelled "Solidarity!" That was the word!

Free Book Reviews
Did researching and writing this book teach you anything or influence your thinking in any way?

K. S. Brooks
Funny how researching can either reinforce or completely debunk my theories. Going back to Vancouver to get my questions answered was thrilling yet annoying at the same time. While I received an amazing amount of cooperation from people all the way up to the Minister's office, I hit roadblocks in other areas. Our hotel was nice BUT it had been closed up and had a nasty musty smell to it. I was getting frustrated and annoyed. Then it clicked. I was being ridiculously idealistic with my story. The truth of it was - real life wouldn't make things easy for my characters - so why should I?

Free Book Reviews
What would you most like readers to tell others about this book?

K. S. Brooks
Yikes. I hope readers will tell others that Night Undone was hard to put down, that the characters were solid and their journey was entertaining.

Free Book Reviews
Can you suggest one question readers might find interesting to discuss, concerning you, your writing in general, or this book?

K. S. Brooks
One thing that stands out to me would be the fact that I love challenging my main character. Many writers protect and coddle their characters while I like to beat the &$@* out of mine - mentally and physically. I guess that raises the question of why...

Free Book Reviews
How can readers help you promote this book?

K. S. Brooks
Word of mouth I think is one of the most important ways of promoting a book, so I'd gladly take that, as well as glowing reviews posted on Amazon.com. The reviews may not actually sell any books but they make me really happy. :)

About You: K. S. Brooks

I like to hide behind my writing. But here's my "Official" bio and there's lots more about me on my web site at http://www.ksbrooks.com.

K.S. Brooks has been writing for over thirty years. She penned her first book, a swashbuckling action-adventure based in 17th century France, when she was fifteen years old. Since then, despite working for a living in the electronics industry, Ms. Brooks continued to write. In 2001, she left the high-tech arena in Boston for the Eastern Shore of Maryland to pursue her writing.

That same year, her first novel, Lust for Danger, was published. That action-adventure novel won Ms. Brooks Honorable Mention in the Jada Book of the Year Awards, and invitations to speak at the Maryland Writers’ Association Writers’ Conference, the Bay to Ocean Writers’ Conference, and numerous other venues. She has been honored by the Maryland Writers’ Association three times by participating as a judge in its annual novel contest.

As the business world and health issues took up more of her energy, Ms. Brooks set her sights on moving West to an environment more suitable and affordable to a writing career. Since her relocation to the wilderness of northeastern Washington State, late in 2008, Ms. Brooks has completed the following works which have been published by Cambridge Books: the suspenseful romance, The Kiss of Night (2010), Night Undone (2011) and three children's books: The Mighty Oak and Me (2009), Postcards from Mr. Pish (2010), and Mr. Pish’s Woodland Adventure (2011). She has six more novels planned in the original Agent Night Adventure Series, two in the Agent Night ‘Cover Me’ series, a horror novel, and a number of Mr. Pish children’s books in the works.

In addition to her writing, Ms. Brooks is an award-winning photographer and poet. Her articles, photographs, poetry, and blogs can be found in books, magazines, newspapers, galleries, and web sites worldwide. She currently writes three different blogs, and is a guest blogger for a number of web sites including CeliacChicks.com and Celiac-Disease.com.

Free Book Reviews
Why do you write?

K. S. Brooks
I am, therefore I write.

Free Book Reviews
What is your greatest strength as a writer?

K. S. Brooks
There can be only one answer to that: my passion.

Free Book Reviews
What quality do you most value in yourself?

K. S. Brooks
Someone once told me that I was uncorruptable. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do have a strong sense of justice and I will always fight for what I believe is right.

Free Book Reviews
In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

K. S. Brooks
I'm passionate about justice. I also believe that kids, and adults, need to get outside -- you know, where there are trees and birds and sky... My children's books promote outdoor learning and literacy for that reason. I really want children to get excited about what's outside their door.

Free Book Reviews
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

K. S. Brooks
Six books published is a start.

Free Book Reviews
Is there any new or established author whom you feel deserves more attention, and what is it that strikes you about his or her work?

K. S. Brooks
Warren Murphy. I'm always amazed when someone doesn't know who he is. He's written over 200 books, some of which were made into movies and TV Series. He's a great person, and a fantastic writer. Whenever someone asks me how to write mystery or suspense, I tell them to get Murphy's "Pigs Get Fat" and study it. There's not enough room here to say all the good things I could say about Warren.

Book Review: The Scarab by Scott Rhine

Description from Amazon

The Scarab is a PG, first-person, near-future, Science Fiction thriller that fans of Speed Racer will enjoy.

There are very few problems that can't be solved with a little help from your friends and the proper application of high explosives. Hemophiliac and ace mechanic Ethan Hayes had risen to the top of the computer gaming circuit as the Scarab. When he invented a device that made him rich over night, he and ex-girlfriend, Mary Ann, were able to enter SimCon, the simulated European road race.

When Ground Effect Vehicles became common, prototypes were too dangerous and expensive to build outright. Instead, each year, major designers competed in the Super Bowl of virtual races – SimCon. The vehicles needed speed, skill, and weapons to get ahead. The winners in each class got millions in production contracts and advertizing.

Ethan made a lot of enemies in his first professional race, including a cyber-criminal named Kali. The challenges of a week-long trek across Europe are nothing compared to the dirty tricks, murder, and kidnapping that took place off the track. Being a severe hemophiliac meant Ethan had to keep his temper under control, and think. When someone kidnapped Mary Ann, it was up to the Scarab to save her.

Review

Overall Feedback: A fast passed, adrenaline pumping read from cover to cover. The author draws us in and holds us hostage in this Virtual Racing World that he has created. Unbelievable action and suspense all wrapped in a tightly woven story. This is a "Do Not Miss" read for the year.

Point of View: You follow Ethan on his trek to overcome his obstacles and save the race.

Voice: A plus to drawing in anyone into the gaming world. A bit of the jargon may catch you off guard but the author does well to explain.

Character Development: Finely tuned just like the Virtual Racers.

Plot: The next step in gaming evolution.

Dialogue: Due to the jargon you may get lost but stay steady and the end will be there.

Pacing: Races through your imagination and fuels your brain with high voltage dreams.

Setting: Virtual Reality is here.

Continuity: Not a loose spot in the story.

Book Reviews: SHANTIBUX by Ramesh A. Bakshi

Description from Amazon

Manos, Frida and their large family are living in a world that survives the nuclear holocaust of previous century. The surviving Nations having been fed up with the futility of wars come together to form a new order with a new constitution, one religion and one world that has now progressed, and space travel to colonies on Moon is common. Genetic science has taken huge strides. They are engaged in very successful businesses. However, human greed persists and crimes are not totally eliminated in the New World. How do they face the problems? Do they survive or perish?

Review

Overall Feedback: This book took everything I had to read. The author obviously does not speak English nor does he write in any fashion near English. Although the storyline would/should be interesting I could not get into the story as the book itself was a barrage of broken English. Many of the sentences and phrases mad absolutely no sense and I believe much was lost in translation.

Point of View: The point of view suffers from the poor grasp of the English language and therefor hops about from person to person.

Voice: The author spends too much time trying to make me believe it is a path rather than show me it is a path.

Character Development: Again because of the lack of good translation the characters are one dimensional.

Plot: Language Language Language

Dialogue: Stilted and one dimensional.

Pacing: Suffers from the lack of a grasp on the English language.

Setting: Please see voice.

Continuity: Horrible. Only thing I can say.
